Smooth
Skin 101

Achieving smooth skin with Sugaring services is all about balancing consistent hydration, gentle exfoliation, and barrier protection. Over time, dead skin cells, environmental stressors, and a lack of moisture can lead to a rough, uneven texture. With ritualized appointments and by introducing a routine that clears away buildup without stripping your natural oils, you can unlock a naturally radiant, velvety-soft complexion.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

  • Your skin will be cleansed and prepared before we begin.

  • Sugar paste is applied and removed in sections to remove the hair from the root.

  • You may experience some sensitivity, especially during your first few appointments.

  • Some areas may be more sensitive than others—this is completely normal.

  • Temporary redness or small bumps immediately after your service can be a normal reaction to hair removal.

  • Communication is always encouraged! If you need a break, are feeling uncomfortable, or have a question, please let me know.

  • My goal is to make every appointment feel comfortable, professional, and judgment-free (We're all hairy and I love my work).

When Should I Reschedule?

Please reach out before your appointment if the area you'd like sugared is:

  • Sunburned or recently burned

  • Cut, scraped, or has broken skin

  • Extremely irritated or inflamed

  • Experiencing an active rash or skin infection

  • Severely irritated from shaving

  • Recently treated with a chemical peel, laser treatment, or another intensive skin treatment

  • Experiencing an unusual skin reaction

If you're unsure whether your skin is ready, just ask! It's always better to check beforehand than risk unnecessary irritation.

Medications & Skincare

Certain medications and skincare products can make your skin more sensitive and may affect whether you're able to receive a sugaring service.

Please let me know in advance (before the 23 HR policy limitation) if you are currently using:

  • Retinoids or prescription retinoids

  • Strong exfoliating acids

  • Prescription topical treatments

  • Recently completed a chemical peel

  • Recently received laser or other intensive skin treatments

  • Any product or medication that has previously caused your skin to become unusually sensitive or any product or medication provides warnings in regards to sensitivities.

When in doubt, please reach out before (23 HR policy limitation) your appointment. Your skin's safety always comes first.

Sugaring During Your Period

  • Yes, you can still receive a bikini or Brazilian service during your period.

  • Some clients experience increased sensitivity during certain parts of their cycle.

  • If you know you're more sensitive during your period, you may prefer to schedule around it.

  • Please arrive prepared with the appropriate menstrual product if you're receiving an intimate service.

  • There is absolutely no need to feel embarrassed—periods are normal, and this is a judgment-free space.

Sugaring Before a Vacation or Special Event

Planning a vacation, wedding, beach trip, or special event?

  • Try to schedule your appointment a few days before your event rather than immediately beforehand.

  • This gives your skin time to calm down.

  • It allows temporary redness or sensitivity to settle.

  • It gives you time to see how your skin responds if you're new to sugaring.

  • Avoid making your very first sugaring appointment the day before a major event if possible.

Tip: If you're new to sugaring, try your first appointment well before your vacation or special occasion so you know how your skin responds.

Shaving Between Appointments

For the most consistent sugaring results:

  • Try to avoid shaving between appointments.

  • Shaving can interrupt the growth pattern we're working to establish.

  • It can result in different hair lengths at your next appointment.

  • Staying consistent with sugaring allows us to better follow your natural growth cycle.

  • If you absolutely need to shave for a special occasion, don't stress!

  • Simply let me know so we can adjust your schedule if needed.

Ingrown Hairs

Ingrown hairs can happen with any form of hair removal, but there are things you can do to help minimize them.

  • Follow your recommended exfoliation routine.

  • Avoid aggressive scrubbing or over-exfoliating.

  • Keep your skin moisturized according to your recommended routine.

  • Avoid picking, squeezing, or digging at ingrown hairs.

  • Give your skin time to recover after your appointment.

  • If you're experiencing frequent or stubborn ingrowns, let me know so we can discuss your routine.

Sensitive Skin

If you have sensitive skin, don't worry!

  • Let me know if you typically experience irritation after hair removal.

  • Tell me about any previous reactions you've had.

  • Avoid coming in with already irritated or compromised skin.

  • Follow your recommended aftercare routine.

  • Communicate with me throughout your appointment if you're uncomfortable.

  • Everyone's skin and sensitivity is different, so your experience may not be exactly the same as someone else's.

Why Do I Have Little Red Bumps/Redness After Sugaring?

Little red bumps after sugaring are very common and usually temporary. They can happen because the hair is being removed from the root and the skin and hair follicles have been stimulated during the service.

Why It Happens

  • Your hair follicles have been stimulated during the removal process.

  • Your skin has just been exfoliated, which can temporarily make it more sensitive.

  • Your pores and follicles may appear more noticeable immediately after hair removal.

  • Friction, heat, sweat, or touching the area after your appointment can increase irritation.

  • If it's your first sugaring appointment, your skin may be more reactive because it's not yet accustomed to the service.

  • Everyone's skin responds differently, so some clients may experience more redness or bumps than others.

How to Help Your Skin Calm Down

  • Give your skin time to breathe and allow the area to calm down naturally.

  • Avoid touching, picking, or scratching the area.

  • Avoid excessive heat and sweating immediately after your appointment.

  • Wear loose, breathable clothing to minimize friction.

  • Avoid heavily fragranced products or anything that may irritate freshly sugared skin.

  • Follow your recommended aftercare and exfoliation routine once your skin is ready.

  • Do not aggressively scrub the bumps—more exfoliation is not always better.

  • Keep your skin moisturized with products recommended for your skin type.

  • Most importantly, be patient with your skin. Temporary redness and bumps typically calm down as the skin settles.

First-Time Clients

If this is your first time getting sugared:

  • It's completely normal to feel nervous!

  • You don't need to know exactly what to expect—we'll walk through the process together.

  • You don't need to feel embarrassed about your hair, skin, or anything else.

  • You are welcome to ask questions at any point.

  • Let me know if you're particularly nervous or sensitive.

  • Your comfort and privacy are always a priority.

  • The more consistent you become with your appointments, the easier it can be to maintain your results.

First Appointment vs. Maintenance Appointments

Your first sugaring appointment and your regular maintenance appointments may feel a little different—and that's completely normal!

Your First Appointment

  • Your first appointment may take a little longer, depending on the amount and type of hair growth.

  • You may experience a little more sensitivity, especially if you're new to sugaring.

  • Your hair may be at different lengths because it hasn't yet been maintained on a consistent sugaring schedule.

  • We are essentially starting your new hair-removal routine, so your results may look and feel different from future appointments.

  • This is a great time to ask questions and let me know how your skin typically reacts to hair removal.

  • Don't worry if your first appointment isn't "perfect"—we're establishing a routine that will become easier to maintain over time.

Maintenance Appointments

  • Regular appointments are typically quicker and more predictable because we're maintaining an established routine.

  • Your hair growth can become more consistent when you stay on a regular schedule.

  • We are able to remove the new growth before it becomes excessively long.

  • Consistent appointments can make the overall experience feel easier and more comfortable.

  • Staying on schedule helps us maintain your smooth results rather than starting over after long periods between appointments.

  • We also get to know your skin, hair-growth patterns, and areas that may need a little extra attention.

The Biggest Difference? Consistency!

  • Think of your first appointment as starting the routine and your maintenance appointments as keeping it going.

  • You don't need to have everything figured out at your first visit.

  • The more consistent you are with your appointments, the easier it becomes to maintain your results.

  • If you get off schedule, don't stress! We can always get you back into a routine.

Your first appointment is the beginning—not a test you have to pass. My goal is to help you create a routine that keeps your skin smooth, healthy, and comfortable.

Before Your Appointment

  • Let the hair grow: Ideally, hair should be about ¼ inch long (roughly the length of a grain of rice) so the product can properly grip the hair.

  • Gently exfoliate beforehand: Light exfoliation 24–48 hours before your appointment can help remove dead skin cells and minimize the chance of ingrown hairs. I don't recommend exfolianting the day of your appointment.

  • Arrive with clean skin: Avoid applying oils, heavy lotions, or body butters to the area being serviced.

  • Skip intense workouts beforehand: If possible, avoid heavy sweating immediately before your appointment.

  • Avoid tanning or sun exposure: Give your skin a break from tanning and excessive sun exposure before your service.

  • Wear comfortable clothing: Loose-fitting clothing can help keep freshly serviced skin comfortably dry afterward with air exposure.

  • Communicate with me: Let me know about any products, treatments, or changes to your skin that may affect your service.

After Your Appointment

  • Give your skin a little breathing room: Avoid tight clothing and excessive friction on the freshly serviced area when possible.

  • Take a break from heat: Avoid sex, hot tubs, swimming, saunas, steam rooms, and very hot showers for about 24 hours.

  • Hold off on intense workouts: Give your skin some time before activities that cause heavy sweating or friction.

  • Skip swimming for a bit: Chlorine and saltwater can irritate freshly serviced skin.

  • Avoid fragranced products: Give your skin a break from perfumes, heavily fragranced lotions, and other potentially irritating products.

  • Wait before exfoliating: Once your skin has settled, gentle exfoliation can help keep dead skin cells from building up and may help prevent ingrown hairs.

  • Keep your skin moisturized: Use a gentle, non-irritating moisturizer to keep the skin comfortable and hydrated.

  • Don’t pick or touch: If you notice a little redness or sensitivity, give your skin time to settle rather than picking or scratching.

  • Follow your personalized aftercare: Your skin and hair are unique, so I may recommend specific aftercare based on your service and how your skin responds.

Schedule Next Appointment

  • For the easiest, smoothest, and most comfortable sugar waxing experience, I recommend scheduling your appointments about every 4 weeks. Staying on a consistent 4-week schedule helps us catch the hair at a great growth stage, when it’s long enough for the sugar to grip but not so long that the service becomes more uncomfortable.

  • Every 6 weeks is still a great timeframe and can work especially well for clients with slower hair growth or busier schedules.

  • If it’s been longer than 6 weeks, no worries at all—we can absolutely still get you back on track! Just keep in mind that longer gaps can mean more uneven or longer regrowth, which may make the appointment take a little longer and feel slightly more sensitive. Consistency is key, and finding a schedule that works for you will help make each visit easier, more comfortable, and more predictable over time.

Common Sugaring Myths

There's a lot of information floating around about hair removal, so let's clear up a few common sugaring myths!

Myth: “Sugaring makes your hair grow back thicker.”

  • False! Sugaring does not make your hair grow back thicker.

  • Sugaring removes the hair from the root rather than cutting it at the surface.

  • Because the hair isn't being cut bluntly at the skin's surface like shaving, regrowth can feel and look different.

  • Everyone's hair growth is different, and results can vary from person to person.

Myth: “I have to wait until my hair is really long.”

  • False! Your hair does not need to be extremely long for a successful appointment.

  • As long as your hair has reached the recommended length for your service, we can typically remove it effectively.

  • Letting your hair grow excessively long can actually make the appointment less comfortable.

Myth: “I can shave between my sugaring appointments.”

  • You can, but it isn't ideal.

  • Shaving can interrupt the consistent growth pattern we're trying to establish.

  • It can leave you with uneven hair lengths at your next appointment.

  • If possible, stick with your sugaring schedule rather than reaching for the razor between visits.

Myth: “Sugaring doesn't hurt.”

  • Sugaring is not completely pain-free.

  • Hair is being removed from the root, so some sensation is expected.

  • Everyone's sensitivity and pain tolerance are different.

  • The good news? Many clients find that appointments become easier as they get into a consistent routine.

Myth: “The longer I wait between appointments, the better.”

  • Not necessarily!

  • Longer gaps can mean more growth, more uneven lengths, and potentially a more sensitive appointment.

  • Staying on a consistent schedule helps keep your regrowth manageable and predictable.

  • For most clients, around 4 weeks is ideal, while 6 weeks can still be a great maintenance timeframe.

Myth: “I can't purchase services as a minor”

  • Not necessarily!

  • A minor may receive services as long as a parent or guardian attends the appointment as well.

  • No brazilians, bikini facials, butt strips, butt facials for anyone under the age of 18 - no exceptions.

Myth: “I shouldn't get sugar waxed while pregnant.”

  • Not true!

  • Sugaring is completely safe during pregnancy—in fact, it's a popular choice because our all-natural sugar paste contains no harsh chemicals.

  • However, increased blood flow and hormonal changes during pregnancy can make your skin extra sensitive, especially in the second and third trimesters.

  • While it is completely safe for both you and baby, it's not pain free, but we take extra breaks or pause for position and pillow adjustments during your service when needed.

Myth: “I can't get sugared if I'm on my period.”

  • Not true!

  • You can still receive a bikini or Brazilian service during your period.

  • Some clients may be more sensitive during certain points of their cycle. So scheduling around your cycle may work best for you, but not necessary.

  • Just come prepared with the appropriate menstrual product and let me know if you're experiencing increased sensitivity.

Myth: “I shouldn't get sugared if I have sensitive skin.”

  • Not necessarily!

  • Having sensitive skin doesn't automatically mean you can't be sugared.

  • It's important to communicate any skin sensitivities or previous reactions before your service.

  • Your skin should be healthy and intact before receiving a sugaring service.

Myth: “I should exfoliate right before my appointment.”

  • Please don't!

  • Freshly exfoliated skin can be more sensitive.

  • Follow your recommended before-care routine instead of exfoliating immediately before your appointment.

  • Gentle, consistent exfoliation between appointments, when your skin is ready, is generally more helpful for maintaining smooth skin.

Myth: “If I waited too long, I shouldn't come in.”

  • Absolutely not!

  • There is never a reason to feel embarrassed about how long it's been.

  • We can work with your current growth and help you get back on a maintenance schedule.

  • Your appointment is a judgment-free zone!

Myth: “I need to trim my hair before coming in.”

  • Please don't!

  • This is absolutely not necessary

  • Some people trim the hair too short which can make it difficult for the hair to be removed.

  • This is actually part of the service provided if needed and I prefer to do for you.

Myth: “Sugaring permanently stops hair growth.”

  • Sugaring is not permanent hair removal.

  • It removes hair from the root, but hair follicles can continue to produce new hair.

  • Consistent appointments may change the appearance and feel of regrowth for some clients, but everyone's results are different.

  • Think of sugaring as a hair removal-maintenance routine, not a permanent solution.

Myth: “The more I scrub, the fewer ingrown hairs I'll get.”

  • More is not always better!

  • Over-exfoliating can irritate your skin and make it more uncomfortable.

  • Gentle and consistent exfoliation is better than aggressive scrubbing.

  • Follow the aftercare routine recommended for your skin.

Myth: “I need to be embarrassed about getting a Brazilian, Butt, Bikini sugaring.”

  • Never! 🤍

  • Hair is completely normal.

  • Bodies and body parts are normal.

  • Periods are normal.

  • Ingrown hairs are normal.

  • My job is to provide a professional, comfortable, judgment-free experience—not to judge you.

  • Come as you are. I'll take care of the rest.

Myth: “Sugaring/Waxing/Exfoliations are appropriate for everyone ”

  • There are Medical & Prescription Contraindications (Absolute NO Sugaring/Waxing Services while on these medications.)

  • Accutane (Isotretinoin) / Prescription Topical Retinoids: Brands like Retin-A, Tretinoin, Differin, Adapalene, Renova, and Tazorac / Steroids & Blood Thinners are all contraindications for sugaring/waxing/ and aggressive exfoliation.

  • When you can possibly schedule appts again (suggestions only)  - Accutane - after 6-12 months. Topical Retinoids - after 7 - 14 days. Steroids and blood thinners - after 7 - 10 days. Of Course, all this should be confirmed with your primary care physician or the physician/dermatologist that prescribed your medication as to when it's actually appropriate to resume these types of self-care rituals.

A Few Things to Remember

  • Consistency is key.

  • Don't worry if you aren't perfectly on schedule—we can always get you back on track.

  • Communicate with me about any changes to your skin, medications, or skincare routine.

  • Don't pick or aggressively exfoliate your skin.

  • Listen to your skin - consult with your physician on anything questionable. And after sessions - follow your after care ritual and give it time to recover when needed.

  • And most importantly, there's never a reason to feel embarrassed or uncomfortable asking questions.

Smooth skin while creating and maintaining sugaring rituals is a process, and I'm here to help make that process as easy, comfortable, and stress-free as possible!
